The Wine List

From the aperitivo glass to the bottle for dinner.

The wine list at Materia Osteria Contemporanea, in Ferrara, brings together more than 150 wines chosen to go with our cooking. Italian sparkling wines and champagne, whites and reds from Italy and France, from Burgundy to the Loire, plus a selection of Triple A natural wines. We share our cellar with Estebar, and it’s curated by Mattia Raiti. At the table we’ll help you find the right bottle for each dish, with prices from just over €20. If you’d rather start with a glass, from 18:00 to 20:00 there’s the aperitivo, before dinner. You’ll find us at Via delle Scienze 9.

Our list includes a selection of Triple A natural wines: Agricoltori, Artigiani, Artisti (Farmers, Artisans, Artists). These are winemakers who work the vineyard without synthetic chemicals, ferment only with indigenous yeasts and don’t correct the wine in the cellar. Living wines that change in the glass and speak of where they come from. You won’t find them everywhere, and they’re what we’d suggest trying with our cooking.

What are Triple A natural wines?

Triple A stands for Agricoltori, Artigiani, Artisti (Farmers, Artisans, Artists): a selection curated by Velier of winemakers who farm without synthetic chemicals, ferment only with indigenous yeasts and don’t correct the wine in the cellar. At Materia Osteria Contemporanea you’ll find a section of the list dedicated to these wines, to pair with the dishes from the kitchen.

How much does a bottle cost?

Bottles start from just over €20, and a good part of the list stays at accessible prices. For special occasions there are higher-end labels from Champagne, Burgundy and Piedmont.

Can I have wine by the glass?

Yes, Tuesday to Sunday there’s a selection of wines by the glass starting from €6, with prices varying by wine. Ideal for the aperitivo from 18:00 to 20:00 or to go with a single dish. If you want a bottle, you can choose it from the full list.

Do you have champagne?

Yes, a selection of champagnes from different houses, alongside Franciacorta, Trento Doc and other Italian sparkling wines. Ask our staff for pairings with the dishes of the moment.
